Stackstown v Bray
Stackstown completed a great 7 2 win against Bray golf club on 18th july 2010. This win sees the team progress to the final of the competition which will be played over two legs on August 15th and August 29th. Yet again some fantastic golf was played by the Stackstown team at home and away. The tie put the team up against the odds in that five matches were played in Bray and four at home. Our away form was sensational. Great credit goes to Stephen Stewart who came from three down with four to play to steal the match on the 18th hole. Another nailbiter saw Conor Ryan chip in for birdie on the 18th to win his match whilst Michael Donnolly had started the momentum with a decisive 5 & 4 win. Just in case we needed them, Enda O Halloran's match was called in while they were playing 18 and Mark Rowantree was dormie 2 up on 17.
The picture at home was equally tense. Our number one player, Ray O Connor lost out narrowly on the 18th. Our second man out Brian Brennan held out well for a tight win on the 18th. Declan Walshe managed a great comeback having been down in his match through ten to complete a superb win on the 17th. Player manager Peadar Hogan won well in the fourth match completing a 4 & 3 victory. Great credit goes to all players and caddies for their performances under pressure.
The team now face either Portmarnock or Carton House in the final of the competition. Nine players compete in each of the two legs of the final. We hope to see loads of supporters out for both legs of the final.
