Twinning of Cherokee Country Club, WI, USA and Stackstown Golf Club, Dublin, Ireland, home courses of Steve Stricker and Pádraig Harrington
To celebrate the deferred 2020 Ryder Cup and to honour both Captains, Steve Stricker and Pádraig Harrington, Cherokee Country Club, WI, USA and Stackstown Golf Club in Dublin Ireland, the home courses of both Captains, have twinned.
Speaking at the announcement on the twinning, Stackstown Chairperson Eugene Banks said "The whole world of golf watches the Ryder Cup and it is a source of great pride for us in Stackstown to have Pádraig Harrington, winner of three majors and several other titles, as Captain of the European Team. We are also delighted to honour both Captains through the twinning of Cherokee Country Club and Stackstown Golf Club and to mark the wonderful occasion that is the Ryder Cup."
Welcoming the twinning, Dennis Tiziani, President of Cherokee Country Club said "We are delighted to be twinned with Stackstown Golf Club in Ireland. Both Captains are wonderful ambassadors for the game of golf and this is one more step in building the golfing family worldwide. We look forward to a wonderfully competitive tournament in Whistling Straits and irrespective of the result, Cherokee and Stackstown will remain twinned into the future.
Both Clubs have exchanged Twinning certificates and Club Flags which are on display in each Clubhouse.
To mark this inaugural twinning of two great golf clubs (and subject to applicable Covid Restrictions), a small team representing Stackstown (who are travelling to the Ryder Cup) will play a team representing Cherokee on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd of September in Cherokee Country Club.
