Our participation in our team events unfortunately came to an end yesterday when our Junior Foursomes were very narrowly defeated by Headfort GC in Lucan GC. Our first pairing of Avila Mairtin and Deirdre Ryan secured a great win on the 14th to take an early lead. Our second pairing of Mary Grogan/Clare Timlin and third pairing of Mary Brennan/Trudy Doyle kept the game alive in two tense matches and sadly lost out on the 21st and 20th hole respectively. Hard luck to the girls and manager Dolores but also congratulations for reaching the semi finals. Many thanks to the supporters on the day and it was great to see our Captain Mick and Vice Captain Brendan joining Lady Captain Joan and Vice Captain Anne in support of our ladies. It was a nerve wracking, nail biting end for us as we stayed on to encourage our team to the bitter end!
I would like to thank all of our team managers this year - Rebecca Rush, Dolores Nulty, Ciara Leech, Mary O'Leary, Deirdre Ryan, Jacqui McDonald, Mairead Cronin, Elaine Culligan and Anne O'Connor. The effort that you made and the time you spent to give something back to the club that we all enjoy is very much appreciated by everyone. You made the sometimes difficult selection decisions, organised caddies and matches and in general looked after all your teams so well and without you our teams would not have been as prepared and ready for each match. We hope that as many of you as possible will continue to manage and help in any way you can.
Many thanks to everyone who played, caddied and supported our teams this year. Our Lady Captain Joan, President Dympna and Vice Captain Anne really led the way on team support this year and attended every match they could. It really does make a difference to see the 'red jumpers' out on the course and can be the extra element to get the team over the line.
It has been a mixed year for our teams but it is wonderful to see so many ladies getting involved in the whole team process. Every lady that played on our teams deserves to be congratulated and thanked for their commitment and effort to each practice round and match. The camaraderie, laughs and support of your team mates definitely outweigh the disappointments along the way. Our teams will only be successful if we keep playing, caddying and supporting one another. For our newer lady members it is a great way to get more involved in the club, meet more people and a good way to learn more about the game of golf in general including rules.
Thank you to all those who have said they have enjoyed the email updates and it is great to hear positive feedback on the teams. Enjoy the rest of the golfing season and over the winter let's put in the practice and start to build our campaign for next season.
Director of Teams.
Our great Junior Foursomes team, managed by Dolores Nulty, have reached the semi final stage of the East Leinster championships. They will play Headfort GC next Tuesday 24th July in Lucan GC at 3pm
We know that most of you will be supporting our Lady President Dympna by playing on her special day on Tuesday but hopefully a few of our early players on Tuesday will be able to support the team in the afternoon. We would also appreciate all support from our mens section in our quest to reach the final.
We wish Dolores and all the team the very best of luck on Tuesday and hopefully we can have a double celebration on Tuesday evening in the clubhouse.
Huge congratulations to our Junior Foursomes team, managed by Dolores Nulty, who had a very comprehensive win over Balbriggan GC in Dun Laoghaire GC yesterday afternoon to progress to the East Leinster semi-final.
The golf played by our ladies was superb leading to our first pairing of Mary Grogan/Clare Timlin winning on the 13th hole and just a couple of minutes later the second pair of Mary Brennan/Trudy Doyle secured victory with a win on the 12th hole! This meant that our third pair of Ita O'Brien/Deirdre Ryan were called in and the celebrations could be begin. Well done to all involved on the team to date and thanks to all the supporters who turned up in our distinctive red yesterday. The semi final details will follow in due course.
Congratulations to all again.
Our one remaining team in action, our Junior Foursomes, led by Dolores Nulty have reached the quarter final stage of the East Leinster championship. They will play Balbriggan at Dun Laoghaire GC next Sunday 15th July at 3pm. Congratulations to all who have played on the team to date and we all wish you the very best of luck on Sunday. As always all support on the day would be much appreciated by everyone.
Congratulations to Dolores Nulty and her Junior Foursomes team who had a very comprehensive win over Lucan GC in Rathfarnham GC on Sunday. Avila Mairtin and Deirdre Ryan won on 13th and Mary Grogan and Clare Timlin won on 15th which meant Mary Brennan and Trudy Doyle were called in. The team now progress to the quarter finals with a redraw to take place for venue.
Unfortunately our Revive Fourball team managed by Mairead Cronin came up against a strong Milltown team yesterday with three of our pairs playing away. We lost one match at home and two away with the remaining matches called in. Hard luck to the team on the day - Anne O'Connor/Fiona Neill, Mary Horn/Clare Timlin, Mairead Cronin/Mary Grogan, Hannah McInerney/Ciara Leech, Kate O'Connor/Rebecca Rush and sub Mary Brennan.
Best of luck to the Junior Cup team who take on Rathfarnham GC in Slade Valley at 2pm on Saturday.
We wish our Lady Captain Joan all the best for her special week and best of luck to everyone taking part in her prize days.
The latest schedule for upcoming matches is as follows:
Sunday 10th June - our Junior Foursomes team take on Lucan GC in a third round tie in Rathfarnham GC at 11.30am. Best of luck to manager Dolores Nulty and her team.
On Monday 11th June our Revive Active Fourball team managed by Mairead Cronin take on Milltown GC with two matches at home and three away at 3pm. This is the third match for the team having had to play a preliminary round.
On Saturday 16th June our Junior Cup team will play Rathfarnham GC in Slade Valley GC at 2pm. Best of luck to Ciara Leech and her team in this third round match.
It is great to see three teams progressing. Thanks to all the ladies for their commitment and time given to practice rounds, to the caddies and supporters. We hope to have continuing good news emails in the weeks ahead. As always your support at the various matches would be very much appreciated by all.
We had a busy few days of matches in the last week. Our Revive Active fourball team managed by Mairead Cronin took on Newlands GC on Thursday afternoon with 3 matches at home and 2 away. The standard of golf in all matches had to be seen to be believed! Away pairings of Mairead/Joan Shields and Kate O'Connor/Rebecca Rush were both edged out in two highly competitive matches on the 18th hole. At home our first and second pairs of Hannah McInerney/Marian White and Mary Horn/Ciara Leech both came through tough matches to win on the 17th. This meant that the final pair of Anne O'Connor/Fiona Neill who were 1 up playing 18 were to decide the tie. The girls held their nerve to complete the win on 18 in near darkness. A superb effort from the girls and congratulations to all on the display of wonderful golf. Thanks to managers on the day Mary Grogan and Mary Brennan and to the supporters who stayed on a cold and darkening evening to see the match through to the end.
On Sunday our Junior Foursomes team managed by Mary O'Leary (deputising for Dolores Nulty who was on her way back from holidays and got there for the end of the match!) took on Killeen GC in Knockanally GC. Mary Grogan/Clare Timlin secured a very decisive victory on the 14th hole with Mary Brennan/Trudy Doyle completing the win on the 18th. Team was completed by Avila Mairtin/Deirdre Ryan. Congratulations to all as they now advance to the third round.
On Thursday our Bloom Cup team managed by Elaine Culligan took on Foxrock GC with all three matches away. The team on the day was Lady President Dympna/Sheila Smyth who secured an away win and the other pairings were Muriel O'Shea/Teresa Small and Sheila Gillick/Paulene Hendley. The return match at home took place yesterday with Dympna/Sheila winning again - Sheila Gillick/Paulene sadly lost out with Deirdre Ryan/Muriel all square on 18 which unfortunately was not enough to win the tie. Hard luck to the ladies and thanks to Elaine and a huge thank you to the many supporters who came out to cheer on the team.
Next Sunday 27th May our Senior foursomes team head to Hermitage GC along with 10 other teams for a strokeplay qualifying round. Our first tee time is 2.38. Best of luck to manager Rebecca Rush and her team.
Yesterday was a day of mixed fortunes for our three ladies teams. First up our Junior Cup team took on Bray GC in Westmanstown GC at noon. Wins were secured by Hannah McInerney on 15, Kate O'Connor on 16 and Mary Horn on 18. Marian White and Joan Shiels were both called in up in their respective matches. Congratulations to all the ladies, manager Ciara Leech, sub Anne O'Connor and all the caddies. We will now play Rathfarnham in the third round.
Next up in Westmanstown were our Intermediate team managed by Mary O'Leary who took on the K Club. Despite wins for Deirdre Ryan (6/5!) and Avila Mairtin on the 19th we went down to strong opposition on the day. Hard luck to the team including Eimear Mairtin, Mary Brennan and Trudy Doyle. Thanks to manager Mary and all the players, subs and caddies for their effort and commitment.
Our Minor Cup team were in action in Beechpark GC also against the K Club. The team was managed on the day by Aideen O'Brien as Deirdre was playing on Intermediate team. A very close encounter ended with wins for Rachel Leahy on 17 and Valerie Hobson on 18. Eithne Early and Mary Kane lost narrowly leaving Bronwyn O'Donnell to continue the match who unfortunately was beaten on 19th hole. Thanks again to all the ladies, sub Margaret McMahon, managers and caddies.
Our mens Pierce Purcell team had a fantastic win yesterday evening. Nineteen teams played strokeplay on Saturday with the top four teams qualifying for matchplay yesterday which included Stackstown. The team managed by Jim Kavanagh beat Grange GC on Sunday morning 4-1 and went on to be outright winners beating Milltown 4-1 yesterday afternoon. The men now go to the Leinster finals in Carlow on 28/7. Congratulations to all and well done to the members for a wonderful show of support yesterday.
Dates for this week:
Our Bloom Cup team managed by Elaine Culligan take on Foxrock GC on Thursday 17th with all matches away - first tee time at 10am with the home return match on Monday 21st May at 2pm. Best of luck to Elaine and her team.
Our Revive Active fourball team managed by Mairead Cronin take on Newlands GC on Thursday at 4.30pm with three matches at home and two matches away. Good luck to all and as always your support at these matches would be much appreciated.
Our mixed team sadly went out of this years Irish Mixed Foursomes after a defeat to Druids Heath GC on Saturday afternoon - our first away pairing of Anne O’Connor/Enda O’Halloran had a great win on 15 but we lost two matches at home - our first home pairing of Mary Horn/Ray O’Connor battled on in a tight match to be called in all square on 21st hole after we had lost the second away match. Tough to go out early after last years great campaign but thanks to all the team including Trudy Doyle/Liam Tyrell, Mary Grogan/Brian Flanagan and Ciara Leech/Peter Horn for their commitment and effort on the day - thanks also to subs Marian White/Brian Brennan and Dolores Nulty/Paddy Murphy - we wish Druids Heath the very best of luck in their first year playing Irish Mixed - also thanks to managers Anne O’Connor and Larry O’Connor. A huge thanks goes to Larry who has stepped down from his role as player/manager on the team for more years than he cares to remember - His humour and management style will be missed!!
We had a better day on Sunday with our Junior Foursomes team managed by Dolores Nulty who beat Clane GC in Woodbrook 2-1 with a great win for mother/daughter combination of Avila and Eimear Mairtin on 14th and for Mary Brennan/Trudy Doyle on 16th - final pairing was Mary Grogan/Clare Timlin. Congratulations Dolores and all your team and the very best of luck in the next round.
Congratulations also to our men’s Barton Cup team who won a closely fought match against Carrickmines on Sunday.
We have a busy day on 13th May when our Junior, Intermediate and Minor Cup teams all play - I will send details of matches nearer the time but as we have three teams playing we would welcome any offers from members who are willing to caddy on the day.Well done to everyone who has represented the club to date and thank you to all those who have caddied and supported - it is greatly appreciated by all.

Well done Deirdre and your team and all the caddies on the day.
Then at 1.30pm our Junior Cup team managed by Ciara Leech took on Newlands GC at the O'Meara Course at Carton House. Great wins for Marian White, Hannah McInerney and Kate O'Connor ensured that the remaining two matches were called in much to the delight of Mary Horn and Anne O'Connor! Sub on the day was Joan Shields and many thanks to Ray O'Connor for updating our twitter feed. Congratulations Ciara, team and caddies.
Our next match is the Revive Fourball next Saturday 21st April against Westmanstown GC with three matches at home at 3.45pm and two matches away at 4.15pm. Best of luck to manager Mairead Cronin and all her team.
Stackstown GC held an ILGU match day yesterday and there were very positive comments on our fabulous new clubhouse and our new catering staff and food. We hope to see you all soon in our new surroundings and we look forward to your continued support for all our teams.
Our Intermediate team had an early start at Edmonstown on Saturday with the first match teeing off at 8am against Beechpark GC. Our ladies were great from the beginning and won the first three matches with Avila Mairtin winning on 19, Emer Mairtin winning on 14 and Mary Brennan winning on 18. Congratulations also to our Mens teams who won their Barton Cup match against Elm Park and the All Ireland Fourball match against Woodbrook.
On a lovely bright sunny Sunday our Irish Mixed team took on Foxrock Golf Club in the first round of the competition. With two matches away the pairings of Lady Vice Captain Anne O'Connor/Enda O'Halloran and Lady President Dympna Donegan/Peter Horn won their matches on 16th and 15th respectively. This set the team up well with just one match needed at home and the first pairing out of Mary Horn/Ray O'Connor won their match on 16th sealing victory for the team. Trudy Doyle/Liam Tyrell were 3 up with 3 to play and Mary Grogan/Brian Flanagan were 2 up when both of these matches were called in. Well done to the Managers Anne O'Connor and Larry O'Connor, all the players and subs.
Shortly afterwards our Ladies Minor Cup team managed by Deirdre Ryan finally took on Killeen GC in a match rearranged a number of times due to bad weather. The ladies had very comprehensive wins at home with Susan Murray (on 12th), Eithne Early (on 13th) and Keelin Fagan (on 15th). The away team was Valerie Hobson who won on 18th and Mary Kane was called in 1 up. Congratulations to Deirdre and her amazing team and thanks to all the caddies on the day.
