Milltown was set up to test us on the greens. And it did just that. Three matches away meant we had to do it the hard way. The flags were on slopes and the greens were lightning fast. Two putting was extremely difficult and probably the undoing of us in the end.
Pat Ball and Paddy Murphy, up in their match all day, closed out a great performance winning on 16.
Paul Egan and Marc Judge, who were 2 up going into the final four holes lost on the 18th to the Irish International Jody Fanagan and his partner. Jody hitting the greens in regulation on 16, 17 and 18 to secure par when everything was on the line. The experience under the gun showing through.
John Egan and Jeff Gavin were called in while playing the 23rd hole. The opposition birdied 12 and 14 but unable to put our lads away. But for the tricky greens Stackstown would have won this match.
Peadar Hogan and Michael Quirke, not at the their very best on the day, fought on until eventually losing on the 17th. The greens causing the lads some issues again.
Eoin Brennan and Conor Brennan down early, again struggled with the greens, had chances on 12, 14 and 15 but unfortunately they didn’t drop and where beaten on 16.
I would like to thank the Panel and my Co Manager Mick Travers for all their support and effort throughout the campaign. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be yesterday. We live to fight another day.
