Playing in what can only be described as dreadful conditions Stackstown lost the 2nd leg

of the Best Cup away to Hollywood Lakes 4/1. This resulted in an overall score of 5/5 with

the last match alive ( Dave Lynch/Bill O'Connell ) then having to go extra holes .  Hollywood

Lakes won the tie on the 20th.

Congratulations to the Stackstown team who performed to a man throughout the campaign.

With the experience of this year under their belt next year can only bring success.

The Stackstown winners were Paul Jenkinson/Jim O'Connor. The other players were Larry

Conway/Vincent Rafter,  Leo McEvitt/Colin O'Neill, John O'Neill/Tony O'Mahony and as

previously mentioned Dave Lynch/Bill O'Connell. Captain Frank McGrath subbed

A big thanks to the Stackstown members who traveled to the North Side and gave welcome

Managers: Joan Moore and Larry O'Connor

A comprehensive 4-1 win against All Ireland Champions Greystones takes us to the Leinster Finals. This was a great team performance with none of our 5 pairings losing. With only two matches at home is was imperative that we won both and then try to win one of the matches in Greystones and we did that and more.At home Liam and Ann were out first against a Greystones pair that were unbeaten in three years. Liam and Ann produced their usual steady golf and sharp short game to win on the 16th. In the second match Brian Flanagan and Mary Grogan playing together for the first time also won on the 16th with Mary closing out with a 8ft par putt.  Brian is an excellant  replacement for the injured Larry. In Greystones Enda and Fiona,Peter and Rebecca were up in their respective matches when Paddy and Delores secured the win on 15. This was a fantastic away performance and we probably would have won all three matches had the not been called in.

Another nail biting finish against Lucan  on Friday the 16th.Stackstown are now into the Leinster Quarter Final  and play Greystones before the 9th July  .As usual Liam Tyrell and Anne O'Connor  won 5 and 4 followed by a  new pairing of  of Peter Horn and Rebecca Rush who finished strongly to win on 19. In the 3rd Home Match Paddy Murphy and Mary Grogan came back from 2down with 2 to play to level the match on 18 when they were called in because Enda O'Halloran and Fiona Neill won 2and1 in Lucan.  The second away pair of Brian Flanagan and Mary Brennan  went down fighting.

We had three matches away in the third round against Elm Park.Brian Flanagan and Mary Brennan coasted to a 4 and 2 victory, Enda O'Halloran and Fiona Neill went down fighting while Paddy Murphy and Delores Nulty lost on the 19th (Paddy shot 74 in the morning to win the Junior Scratch Cup in Stackstown). At home Liam Tyrell and Ann O'Connor continued their superb form in this competition and closed out their match on the 14th for a 5 and 4 win.The pressure was on the final pairing of Larry O'Connor and Mary Grogan who again got off to a slow start going 3 down after 9.Wins on 10,13 and 15 levelled the match only to go 1 down again after 16,the 17 th was halved and a regulation par on 18 was good enough to take the match to the 19th.A large group of supporters had gathered around the 1st green and spurred on by the great show of support Mary holed from 4 feet for par to win the match.

Next Lucan Before 18th June 3 away again.

The 2nd round was played on Sat. 22nd April V Dun Laoghaire. This proved to be a very tough challenge. The Dun  Laoghaire team playing in Stackstown lined out with men playing off handicaps of +2 , +1 and 4.Paddy Murphy and Delores Nulty playing in the first match found themselves behind early but fought hard to stay in the match. Three down with three to play they used their shot on 16 to reduce the deficit to two. A superb long put by Paddy on 17 sent us up 18 one down. Winning the 18th squared the match and sent them into extra holes. The 19th was halved and on the 20th Delores sank an 8 ft downhill right to left putt to win the match. In the 2nd match Liam Tyrell and Ann O'Connor played their usual steady golf to win on the 17th. In the 3rd match Larry O'Connor and Mary Grogan were in a very close match with never more than one hole in it until going two up after 15. A birdie four on the 16th by Dul Laoghaire reduced the match to one hole. The 17th was halved in fours and a par on 18 was good enough to secure victory. In Dun Laoghaire Brian Flanagan and Mary Brennan came from 4 down to be all square playing 18 when called in. Enda O'Halloran and Fiona Neil were also level coming to 18 when they were called in.This was a great win against a very strong side and the closness of the matches can only help us in the next match giving us the confidence to grind out a result.

1st round played on Sunday 26th March V Old Conna. Won 3.5 to 1.5- Having three matches away this was a great result .Brian Flanagan and Dymphna Donegan secured the away point while Liam Tyrell and Ann O' Connor had a comfortable 4 and three win at home .Securing the second home win proved a little more difficult. Larry O'Connor and Mary Grogan went three down after nine and had to dig deep to level the match after 14 .The last 4 holes were halved and the match went up 19 which was halved. A great tee shot from Mary reminiscent of her shot to the 4th tie hole in Milltown last year landed 10 ft from the pin and a three was good enough to win the match..Meanwhile in Old Conna Enda O'Halloran and Fiona Neil were playing the 19th (not the bar) having come back from 4 down early on .The third away pairing of Garret Sweeney and Mary lost to a very strong home pair.

On Sunday 27th May We played Grange .Five matches away and four at home . Grange were the better team on the day winning 5.5 to 3.5 in a very close contest . Many thanks to Jeff and his players for representing Stackstown in the true spirit of competition.

Stackstown Teams continue to win against the head .The west course in Powerscourt is a very difficult and tricky test of golf and with three of the five matches away it was always going to be a tough task. Dermot McMahon and Leo McEvitt got us off to a fine start with a 5 and 4 win .Brendan King and Bill O' Connell(number 5) followed up with a 2 and 1 victory. At home we were struggling but the formidable Mayo pairing of John Manley and Larry lefty Conway fought back from an impossible 4 down with 5 to play and won on the 19th. The othe two pairings of John O'Neill and Dave Lynch away and Colm O' Neill  and Andy Curry lost to very strong Powerscourt pairings..

In the 2nd round V Charlesland on Sunday 23rd April Stackstown won three matches at home.Vincent Farrell and Alan Harvey won 7/6 followed by Captain Frank McGrath and Aidan Hayes winning 5/4 and Leo McEvitt and Dermot McMahon winning 4/3. The two away matches which were due to start late were not played due to the death of a Charlesland member on the course.

Stackstown have qualified for the 4th round by defeating Elm Park on Super Sunday.( three ladies and two men's teams winning)  The away team having started earlier than the home team won their matches   . John O'Neill - John Manley 4/3, Dave Lynch and Bill O' Connell on the 19th.At home Vincent Farrell-Andy Curry 7/6 . The other two matches were called in with Dermot McMahon- Leo McEvitt dormy 4 up and Capt. Frank McGrath with Aidan Hayes 1up  after 15. Andy Curryand Vincent Farrell  played a solid back nine to secure the first point, meanwhile in Slade Valley John Manley and Alan Harvey,Leo McEvitt and Dermot McMahon lost. John O'Neill and Brendan King won 3/2 which left Aidan Hayes and Bill O'Connell to battle it out to the end. Two up with three to play they were looking good until Slade got a great  par on 16 to reduce the deficit. Slade also won 17 which brought the match down to the wire .Aidan closed with a par which was good enough to win . Royal Curragh are our Semi Final Opponents.Date to be arranged. The semi final was played on Wednesday 26th July and Royal Curragh made the best of their home advantage to progress to the final. Reserve: John O'Neill

Another great victory V Edmonstown winning 5-0 again

In the 3rd match of the group stages we won 3.5 to 1.5 against hermitage . We only need a half point in Portmarnock to win our group and put us in the Quarter Finals.

Super Seniors 12.06.2017 pic1.jpg  pic2.jpg   pic3.jpg

The final match in the group saw Stackstown traveling to Portmarnock only needing a half match to reach the quarter finals. A very strong performance by Dave McNamara and Tony O'Mahony winning 5 and 4 encouraged the rest of the team to raise their game.Patsy O' Connor and John O' Neill secured the second point on the 18th and Jim Kavanagh playing with Frank Newman sank a 15 foot putt on 18 to half their match. Tom Kiely a last minute replacement for the injured Frank Kavanagh playing with Cathal Griffin put in a very credible performance only to be pipped to the post on the last hole. Jim Healy and Vincent Rafter gallantly fought but unfortunately lost to the home sides strongest pairing. We now await the quarter final draw.

Quarter Final: Grange V Stackstown at 10 am on Monday 12th June. Three matches away and two at home.

🏌🏽👍😀 Stupendous super Seniors slay Grange 4-1 securing a semi final place against either Headford or Borris. At home Frank Kavanagh and Cathal Griffin won on 18 and Jim Kavanagh with Frank Newman were all square on 16 when called in. In Grange Dave Rickard and Tommy Hickey set the tone with a 3/2 win playing magnificent golf. In the second match Patsy O'Connor and Michael Whelan were about to go up 19 when called in. The third pair of Dave McNamara and Tony O'Mahony produced the best golf of the day to win on the 15th. This was a fantastic performance against a very strong Grange team. Many thanks to our reserves Jim Healy and Vincent Rafter at home and Brian Woods with John O'Neill in Grange for their support and encouragement.

The semi final was played on Monday 26th June against Headford. We had three matches at home and two away and were able to advance to the final by winning all three home matches. The home pairings were Frank Kavanagh and Cathal Griffin, Jim Kavanagh and Jim Healy, Patsy O'Connor and Michael Whelan. In Headford assistant manager and reserve John O'Neill had to decide whether to play himself or Brian Woods when I.P.A. winner Dave Rickard cried off with a back injury,John decided to play Brian with Frank Newman. The other away pairing was Dave McNamara and Tony O' Mahony. Both matches were called in when the news came from Stackstown that we had won.Even though Dave Mac was two down he assures me that he would have won.

The Final will be played in Elm Park  V Newlands on Wednesday the 19th July time to be announced. The final was played in very wet conditions and Newlands were the victors 3-2. Two of the matches finished on the 18th in a very close contest. Congratulations to all the players in getting to the final and we will try and go one better next year.

Huge congratulations to Joan O'Brien and her team who secured victory yesterday in the Bloom Cup in Edmonstown GC against the host club.  The team carried a 3-0 lead into the second leg and needed a half point to secure the win.  On a lovely sunny afternoon no nerves were obvious as all six ladies hit great tee shots off the first.  The pairings on the day were Clare Timlin/Fiona Moylan, Deirdre Ryan/Margaret McMahon and Ita O'Brien/Elaine Molyneaux.  All matches were close after the fourth and eighth holes with Edmonstown taking a lead in two matches after eleven but the Stackstown ladies never gave in.  Clare and Fiona were 1up playing 17 where Fiona sank a great putt for a par to win the match.  A great triumph for the the team and well deserved for Joan and her panel along the way which included Joan Moore, Dympna Donegan, Sheila Gillick, Trudy Doyle and Sinead Murphy.  Thanks to all the supporters on the day led as always by Lady Captain Mary and Lady President Liz with Captain Frank and vice Captain Mick also in attendance.  Photos are on our twitter page and thanks to Anne and Ray O'Connor for updating the scores on the day.  Hope you all enjoyed the celebrations!!

Meanwhile in Elm Park our juniors under the wonderful guidance of Mary Brennan took part in the Elm Park trophy carrying a point lead into the final day.  Stackstown were represented by Abigail Sheridan, Ciara Doyle and Lisa Webster.  Our girls performed admirably and at the end of play there was a three way tie between Stackstown, Dun Laoghaire and Elm Park which was ultimately won by Dun Laoghaire on a count back over the whole series of matches.   Congratulations to Mary and her girls who did us proud over all the matches.  The future looks bright for these juveniles.

As we draw near the end of the team matches this season, thanks and congratulations to all the managers, players, caddies and supporters on a hugely successful year so far.  Our next match is the Junior Cup All Ireland semi final on Friday 29th September in Malone GC Belfast v Limerick/Lurgan at 8.30am

Well done again to all the Bloom Cup team.

Sadly our terrific team year came to an end on Friday in Malone where our Junior Cup team were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Limerick Golf Club.   We had challenging and close matches against a strong team who played four 9 handicap ladies and one 10.  Mairead Cronin and Kate O'Connor won their matches on 18 and Mary Horn and Anne O'Connor were beaten on 17 with Marian White also losing out on the day.  The team was led by Ciara Leech and subs on the day were Hannah McInerney and Joan Shields.  There was a fantastic team spirit throughout the campaign and even though everyone was very disappointed on the day we need to remember that we are Leinster Champions and have brought another ILGU pennant to the club following on from the success of last years Junior Foursomes team.  The  team would really like to thank all the supporters who made the trip to Malone for a very early start - your presence on the day kept us going and the club spirit shown on the day was fantastic.

Our teams have had a great year with the Bloom Cup success, our Mixed team getting to the Leinster semi final and the Best Cup also getting to their Leinster final.  A huge amount of work goes in to our teams and we hope to build on the last two years success into the future.

I would like to thank all the team Managers this year - Marian White, Deirdre Ryan,

Ciara Leech, Mary P Walsh, Avila Mairtin, Joan Kavanagh, Joan O'Brien, Joan Moore and Aideen O'Brien.  Clare Timlin, Mary Kane and Ita O'Brien also assisted where needed.  They all made my role easier as they were so organised and made the sometimes difficult selection choices and looked after their teams very well. There were varying degrees of success with all the teams but the players and caddies commitment could never have been questioned.  We had a huge number of ladies playing on teams this year with many making their debut.  It can seem a bit daunting to put yourself forward for teams but it is so worthwhile so thank you to each and every lady who played for the club this year.

Teams form such a huge part of our club and I would urge as many of you as possible to get involved next year - whether as a player, a caddie or as a supporter.  There was a great atmosphere around the club this year with the team successes and we really want to build on this in 2018.  We will start our practice sessions again early in the new year and look forward to seeing you there.

Finally I would like to thank those who have taken the time to say thanks for the emails I've sent throughout the year.   It is nice to know they've been appreciated and are actually being read!

Onwards and upwards in 2018.

Mary Horn,

Director of Teams.

Manager : Marian White

Good Friday in Kilmashogue proved to be a sad day  for the Ladies Junior Foursomes Team when they lost to a formidable Craddockstown team . Update: We have now been drawn to play Headfort on Saturday 1st July in Ashbourne Golf Club at 8am with the winners playing again at 3pm that afternoon.

Stackstown Ladies took part in Senior Foursomes Qualifying on Sunday 28th May 2017, in Craddockstown, Co Kildare. Stackstown were one of 10 teams hoping claim one of only 4 prestigious spots. The three Stackstown pairings took to the tee at 2.12 p.m. watched by Team Manager, Deirdre Ryan & Lady Captain Mary Grogan. Barbara Kelly & Mairead Cronin led the way, followed by Kate O'Connor & Stackstown debutante Hannah McInerney. Anne O'Connor & Mary Horn completed the line up. The teams each played a full round of foursomes golf and submitted their cards to the ILGU rep. They took our best two cards. The team, manager and LC went inside for a meal at table 13, unlucky for some(!). The ILGU rep announced the qualifying clubs, first through were Naas, then Lucan, then Stackstown! A cheer came up from table 13, Dee toasted the players, reserves Rebecca Rush & Marian White & supporters Marian White and Ann McCormack. Next up for Stackstown Senior Foursomes Ladies will be matchplay on 1st / 2nd July in either Grange or Ashbourne, to be confirmed.
